The news continues to expose us to tragic and disturbing events. Terrorist acts, criminal events, and racial injustice are taking lives across the globe, be it radical religious terror in the UK or France, a white man from Illinois with a gun on a Virginia baseball field, or unjustified police violence. Jaelyn grew up in the foster care system from ages 6-18. After two years of being homeless in Seattle, he connected with the Y’s Young Adult Services to improve his situation. He now lives in his own apartment, is working towards attending college while recording his music, and is an advocate for other foster youth.

More than 99,000 children and teenagers in King County are struggling with food insecurity, growing up without knowing where their next meal will come from. While they depend on receiving free or discounted food through the USDA’s Child Nutrition Programs, only 20% have access to healthy meals once school is out. The YMCA of Greater Seattle is committed to ending childhood hunger.
