Philanthropy Northwest Leadership Transition

Today I share some bittersweet news. I am stepping down as CEO of Philanthropy Northwest, effective June 30. I am honored to have served as Philanthropy Northwest’s first woman of color CEO, and I am grateful to our board of directors for the incredible opportunity to lead an organization whose values match my own, and whose mission of building resilient, inclusive and equitable communities is more urgent than ever.

OP-ED: Is Washington ready for Census 2020? Billions are riding on it

We’re one year away from the nationwide start of Census 2020, and we have only one chance to get it right. This legislative session, lawmakers have a once-in-a-decade opportunity to ensure an accurate count of Washington communities, by fully funding the people and infrastructure for a robust and accurate Census 2020 count.

United for Change: Celebrating All We’ve Accomplished Together in 2021

With 2021 almost behind us, Philanthropy Northwest is looking forward to a merrier, brighter and stronger 2022. The new protected bike lane on 2nd Ave and the Rainier Valley Greenway are starting to make walking and biking down those streets safer for all ages and abilities. As part of our Vision Zero plan to end traffic deaths and serious injuries on city streets by 2030, we lowered the speed limits citywide in 2016.

Peter Hook & The Light bringing New Order to Seattle {9/25}

Peter Hook is back at it (OMG! OMG!), putting together a new North American tour to perform New Order’s Movement and Power, Corruption & Lies in their entirety. Considering that New Order is my favorite band EVER, I had to breathe into a paper bag for a full ten minutes to quit hyperventilating after I heard the announcement.  Mark your calendars, people: September 25th is the day that Hooky will be bringing the original electro dance sound to Neumos. When I fall asleep at night, I dream about a

Rock Torch: Volume One

If you haven’t yet discovered Rock Torch and are an over-the-moon audiophile or bibliophile, read on — because this is one of the best ideas we’ve heard of since chocolate and peanut butter came together in an unholy union: Rock Torch founder Randy Abramson came up with the brilliant idea to ask musicians we love about which artists inspired/influenced them and why, and then put all the answers in a great big wonderful book.

Not only do they discuss in-depth what makes the music so off the char
